Q: Do I need Advanced Web Content Filtering?
A: Most of our customers find, especially if there are children in the home, that it is difficult to control or prevent accidental access to objectionable material during internet web surfing. Advanced Web Content Filtering can help block access by the web browser to much of the objectionable content on the internet.
Our Advanced Web Content Filtering is based on N2H2 Sentian. Sentian Internet filtering software helps protect your family from objectionable material and it can protect your company from exposure to liability associated with inappropriate or illegal Internet content. And since Advanced Web Content Filtering causes no performance loss, and requires no client configuration impact on your network is minimal. Implementing filtering is easy for network administrators and transparent to your users. It filters the actual content of pages based on many methods including phrase matching, PICS filtering and URL filtering. It does not purely filter based on a banned list of sites like lesser totally commercial filters.
Q: How Do I Setup Advanced Web Content Filtering?
A:
Advanced Web Content Filtering is configured on the service Fibernet provides for your home or office so there is no configuration to do on your end. Simply call our sales office and sign up for the service. It will be a seamless and non-intrusive change to your account with us and it will simply work on any computer using your account with us.
If you have Advanced Web Content Filtering and have problems or questions, please call technical support or email us at support@fiber.net
Q: How Can I Override the Advanced Web Content Filtering?
A: Advanced Web Content Filtering is implemented on the back end of your network so there is no way to override the filtering without an override password account for Fibernet. Simply call our sales office and sign up for an override if you want to access content that is blocked by the filter. The override can be used on any computer so be careful who you give it to.
Q: Why does Advanced Web Content Filtering Allow Objectionable Content on Occasion?
A:Unfortunately, due to the liquid and changing nature of the internet, no content filter is 100% effective. We update our filter often and strive to make web surfing safe and enjoyable for you and your family. On occasion some objectionable content may make it through to your computer. This is unavoidable and since the filter is updated constantly, should not happen often. If you suspect the filter is not working correctly, please go through the setup instructions again or contact our support group.
The Advanced Web Content Filtering we offer filters HTTP protocol only. That means that programs other than your web browser (that you configured to use the filter) can access content or data without being filtered. FTP, file sharing or peer-to-peer programs, email and other internet services are usually not affected by Advanced Web Content Filtering. If you need help locking down those kinds of services or applications on your computer or network we are happy to offer security consulting services that can provide ways to prevent that access on your computer.
