The Basics
What Software do I need to Configure?
There are many different programs that you can use to dial in to Fibernet but they all ask for basically the same settings, just sometimes in different ways.

The software that you need to make your modem connect to us is called a dialer (Win95's Dial-up Networking, Trumpet Winsock, Skyway, Netscape dialer, Mac TCP/PPP). The software you use to look up www sites and "browse" the internet is called a browser (MS Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mosaic). You will also probably want an email program (MS Internet Mail, Eudora, Claris, Pegasas; current versions of the Netscape browser will also have email in it.) Other progams you may want would be news readers, and ftp programs and there are others.

Dialer Settings

In your Dialer:

Domain:

fiber.net.

Dialup Phone Number:

Utah County :437-0569
SLC: 924-1760
Park City: 658-0160
Ogden: 593-9662

DNS or Name Server Addresses:

Primary: 216.83.130.2
Secondary: 216.83.130.7

An IP number or address:

This is an address that is assigned to your machine. Fibernet assigns you one every time you log in so you want this to be server assigned, dynamic, or obtained automatically. If you don't have any of these choices (on a MAC or in Trumpet Winsock) leave it 0.0.0.0

PPP or SLIP:

Unless you specify otherwise with us we will set it up as PPP, so that is what you want to choose.

Your username, login name, user ID or account name and password:

These are things you specified with us. Your username is always all lowercase. Your password is case sensitive, make sure you type it however you told us.

Additional Configuration

Additional information your dialer may or may not require.

Gateway

Utah County: 204.250.13.1
SLC: 204.250.192.1
Park City: 204.250.206.130
Ogden: 204.250.206.66

Netmask

255.255.255.0

Protocol

In Win95's Dial-up Networking make sure that you only have TCP/IP, you don't want NetBEUI or IPX/SPX.

On a Macintosh:

wait user:
send (whatever your username is)
wait Password:
send (whatever your password is)

The CR should be checked on both of the send lines if you have that option. Also you might see the word "out" instead of "send".

In Trumpet Winsock or other programs that may use a script make sure that if your script uses the word "login" or "username" that you change it so it just says "user:"

Setting up your Email

In your E-mail Program:

Email address:

This is your username@fiber.net

Outgoing mail or SMTP server:

mail.fiber.net

Incoming mail, POP or POP3 server:

mail.fiber.net

It may ask for a POP or POP3 account:

That's your username@mail.fiber.net

Or it may ask for a POP3 username:

That is just your username.

Return address:

This is the email address that you want people to write you back at, most likely it is just your email address.

The rest of the settings in your email program are either your own personal preference or best left with the default setting.

Setting up News, FTP, or Other Programs

News server:

news.fiber.net

FTP server:

ftp.fiber.net

If you just want to get to our ftp site log in with anonymous as the username and your email address as the password.

If you have the Personal Pro Account with 5 Megs of web space you will want to use the username and password you set it up with. (It will automatically put you in your directory.) You will find your page at http://www.fiber.net/users/yourusername.
