Q: How do I send mail?
A: You send it through your ISP’s provided mail server.
Q: How do I choose usernames and passwords?
A: User names must be unique so common names will often not work. Try user names that are first name and last initial such as valeriet or johnx. User names can contain only lowercase letters or numbers, no punctuation or symbols. Passwords must be at least 6 characters and contain a capital letter and a number. The more complex and random the more secure it will be. Passwords can contain almost any character.
Q: Do you backup my email?
A: No, unfortunately, there is no easy way for us to backup your email since it is stored on your computer once you have downloaded it.
Q: What if I need more mail storage space for large attachments?
A: The best option for increasing storage space for large emails is to upgrade to an Advanced Virtual Server account or higher. Those accounts include the feature of custom email quotas.
Q: Can I have a website too?
A: Yes, if you upgrade to a Virtual Server Account or higher you can have a website too.
Q: Why can’t I have the username I want?
A: Since the virtual server system is a shared server environment, often common user names are already taken. User names like john or tim or mary are not likely to be available but using an alias for your email address allows you to have any email address you want combined with your user name. So even if your user name is stephen123x your email address can still be stephen@company.com or whatever you like.
Q: Why does my password have to be so complicated?
A: The more complex it is, the more secure it is and hard to guess. This protects your account from being accessed by those who should not be allowed to access it.
Q: How to setup the mail?
A: Set up the virtual mail server account with customer service, and set the domain to point to our DNS (domain name server's), ns1.fiber.net and ns2.fiber.net.
A virtual e-mail server comes with 10 pop or e-mail addresses, and 10 aliases.
Remember the e-mail address that you are planning on using (remember that you may have an alias and/or a pop account). An alias is just an e-mail address that forwards to your actual pop or e-mail account. These are used when the virtual server has many of the same names on the server (i.e. Bob). If I had an e-mail address bob@exampledomain.com , and Bob was used on the server, then I would have it forward to an actual pop or e-mail account such as bob1@exampledomain.com . The pop accounts are actual email accounts that the mail is sent to. In your mail program the only thing that you need from the actual pop account is the “username ” or “account name” and of course the password. The username should be in lower case (smaller) letters, and the password should have numbers or capitol letters where or if you have them.
If you are certain your username and password have been entered in correctly, then call Fibernet at 801-223-9576. There may be a problem with your account on our end, your account may have been inactivated due to billing problems, or that the e-mail account may even be over the set 2 megabytes for the pop account. or we may need to reset your password. |
